After two weeks with failed long runs, I decided to take this week off of training and reevaluate whether I should continue training for Med City Marathon, or bail.
So this week has been about running what I want, when I want to. No set miles. No target paces. Just running to run.
My longish run today was 13 miles, not the 20 that would have been on the schedule. And I’m happy to report that I loved every step of it. Best part was that it was fueled by birthday cake. Literally. I tried the new 25th anniversary flavor of Gu. Birthday Cake flavored! Oh my goodness – it was SO GOOD! It tasted just like white bakery cake with white buttercream frosting. Those of you who know me in real life know that bakery cake with buttercream frosting is my absolute favorite treat in the world. Give me a corner piece of cake with loads of frosting flowers and I am in heaven! If I had a birthday cake Gu every 5 miles, I’d definitely be motivated to finish the marathon!
So back to training I go on Monday. Just gonna move forward, not worry about “making up” this week on the training plan.
When I got home I celebrated my return to training for Med City with a REAL piece of birthday cake. Thanks for being born William! 🙂
