Active Saturday!

Today has been very active!

The Maple Grove Half Marathon ended up being a very solid training run.  I know you are dying to know if I ran with or without garmin, huh?  I ran naked!  No garmin.  Felt very strange.  I kept looking down at wrist every time I’d pass a mile marker.  Since it was just a training run, and i wasn’t racing, I was ok with it.  But I don’t think I could do it in a real race (unless there were pacers, then maybe).

For those of you who don’t want details, I’ll give you the scoop.  1:42:18.  7:49 pace.  3rd place in my age group (F40 – 49).  OA 75/619.

Anyway, the half marathon was the best feeling half marathon I’ve ever done.  It was a perfectly executed run, if I do say so myself!  The course was described as having “challenging hills”.  It was very hilly!  I definitely wouldn’t have picked this race if I was trying to PR.  But for a training run, it was perfect.  My breathing never felt horrible.  And I didn’t feel like I was racing.  So – anyway, I ran the first 3 miles with the 1:40 (7:38 pace) pacer.  He commented that I should be able to maintain that the whole way, because my breathing sounded ok.  I swear right after he said that we hit the first “challenging” hill and he left me in the dust.  I could have pushed it and stayed with him, but since I’m only 3 weeks post-Lansing and 6 weeks til Grandma’s, I didn’t want to risk hurting myself.  So I backed off on the pace for the next 7 miles.  Since I didn’t have garmin, I’m not sure what I was at.  If I had to guess, I’d say about 7:50 – 7:55.  Then at the 10 mile mark, I picked it up.  And made it my goal to pass people and not get passed for the last 3 miles.  I was feeling great and so happy that for once in a race I had energy at the end.  I passed 8 people.  About 1/2 mile from the end a dude did pass me.   Cool finish on the track at Maple Grove high school.  I had enough energy to sprint around the track.  Woot!

I’m excited to see what I can do when I can actually race a half marathon.  It felt SO good this morning!

When I got home I went for a 10 mile bike ride.  SO gorgeous out.  Sunny and 65!

My day in pictures (enjoy the spandex, posting the pics will motivate me to skip dessert!):

Pre-race at home. Took off garmin though. LOVE wearing compression sleeves.

Trying to figure out how to get on this thing.

Let’s try it from this side.

How the F does this other foot clip in??

Off I go!

I think you should leave your garmin at home more often and wear a simple watch. Trust your body to tell you what’s going on…the digital driven by satellites in outer space sh!t on your wrist has no idea what’s going on between your feet and brain.
Anyway, great to see that you’re knocking out solid runs, etc. I’m jealous.
    Nice wheels.
