Relaxing and Recharging

I was supposed to do a 10 mile race this morning.  I had ambitious goals for it (7:30 pace, which I really think is do-able for me).  But last night I decided to bail.  Why?  I had an EXHAUSTING week, with trial Tuesday – Friday (out of town).  During trials I don’t eat well.  And I don’t hydrate well.  And I don’t sleep well.  Needless to say, that combination of things doesn’t make for optimal preparation for an ambitious race.  When I mentioned my week to coach, he agreed that it wasn’t a good idea to race – since my crappy week could stress the body too much and lead to injury.  So, I bailed.

And that was definitely the right decision.  I struggled this morning doing 10.5 miles at 8:45 pace.  It felt horrible.  But what a good reminder about how important taking care of your body is!

So while this was a disappointing week in terms of mileage and running goals, I’m just chalking it up to a major cut-back week and moving forward.

To what?

Vacation!  8 days of sunning, running and funning in Cedar Key, Florida.  I have never needed a vacation so badly in my life.  Seriously.  The last 4 months have been exhausting, with the life changes and the insane amount of work (3 trials done, 1 more to go 2 days after I get back from vacation).  My plan for the next 8 days:  relax and recharge.  I plan on enjoying every minute of the time that I get to be with the kids and my family.  I plan on running like a mad man.  I plan on consuming tons of delicious food and red wine.  And, mostly, I plan on just being thankful for all the good things I have going on in my life.

I’m bringing the laptop, so stay tuned, I may update the blog.  (Though at least 2 of my 5 readers will be with me in Florida!)

Oh – and look at Carter – he got glasses!  A little mini-me now.  🙂  So cute!
