“I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things in life which are the real ones after all. “ — Laura Ingalls Wilder
So many things about my day today are complicated and overwhelming. Late morning I decided ENOUGH with the complications and headaches, I need my “me time”. So I ran. Through the snow (there’s more up here at the cabin than in the cities). For miles and miles and miles. Then to the lake. Where I stopped and took in the simplicity and stillness of the area. And took this photograph:
And as I took the photograph, and took in the beauty of Mille Lacs, I was reminded to slow down, take deep breaths, and enjoy the simplicity of certain things life has to offer. Like the lake just entering the beginning stages of its winter freeze. And the trees that have lost their leaves as they prepare for winter. And the wonderful, perfect stillness that existed while I ran up here for 105 minutes without seeing a single soul. For 105 minutes, I was able to set aside life’s complications and just be. I needed that.
